Ian,

Thanks for your comment :)

With me I am trying to make a personal brand and to do that I want to put my name out so having http://ollieparsley.com and http://twitter.com/ollieparsley are almost essential in that regard. I don't feel any threat about people finding where I live etc as I live almost in the middle of a field etc.

If you are concerned and don't care about personal branding then I don't see why hiding your real name would be a problem. I guess an alternative could be a "stage name", so make up a surname and only give your real surname out to people you know are legitimate. Not sure what rules there are about that though when signing up for websites.

I hope that helps you a bit :)

Thanks Ollie, good idea on creating the second account. I have a second and third account that I follow for receiving RSS feeds via Twitterfeed, such as the RSS of my Facebook friends status update (why can't they just join Twitter?!!). So I'll use one of those accounts.

Do you have any concerns over making your real full name public? I am still cautious as I have a rare surname, but my domain is registered by proxy to hide my contact details.
