New Facebook Profiles Available To Developers

[digg=http://digg.com/tech_news/New_Facebook_Profiles_Available_To_Developers]This is a big step! I have literally just had a poke around the new Facebook Profiles. Up until this point we had to make do with a photo of a preview of a possible new profile style. Now apart from that I haven’t been paying much attention to new improvements.

I have added a screen capture of my profile in the new style using the developers new profile sandbox. (Click it for a large view!). Thought you can try th following link to see if you have access to the sandbox version: http://www.new.facebook.com/profile.php.

From my first glimps these are the changes I have seen:

  • Flexible width (not fixed anymore)
  • Wall posts are at the top. Maybe to get better placement over SuperWall etc.
  • Cleaner look
  • Front/Feed page is original Facebook boxes.
  • The next 3 tabs; Info, Wall and Photos are for the respective applications
  • Boxes is the new tab for applications
  • You can add new tabs and move applications to them
  • Alot of AJAX, I assume there is a non-JavaScript alternative
  • Drop-downs at the top of the page allow access to your profile, friends, apps and inbox. As before but new location on the top bar.

Thats all I could spot. Can you see anything I have missed? I can see alot of people finding it hard to find items with this new design, I also found the news feed hard to keep up with, the extra spacing and odd horizontal lines are a bit wierd to follow. Still no RSS subscription for your news feed. Also I am assuming that the profiles will not change much between now and when they are launched.

What do you think of the new Facebook profiles?

Hey! I was just wondering, is the new profile view available to everyone now or just for some people? Cuz I don’t see it :(

Naina,

Everyone should be able to see the new profiles at http://www.new.facebook.com. I answered your question in more depth in my latest video blog. You got a mention!
